Dr. Xue Min Shi graduated from Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1962 and the postgraduate of National Health Ministry in 1965. He has been working on the clinic and research of acupuncture and geriatrics over 40 years. He is noted for his meticulous scholarship, learns from the ancient theory of TCM, but not sticks to them. He is bold in blazing new trials and has formed his special system on the academic thought. He established acupuncture therapy of Xing Nao Kai Qiao (XNKQ), activating brain and opening orifices) therapy in treating encephalopathy, especially apoplexy. The clinical and experimental research of XNKQ Therapy has attained the molecular gene level. He is the pioneer of the theory of “quantity of acupuncture manipulation” and his theory made the therapy of acupuncture develop along science and standardization. He has finished about 20 items of the clinical analysis and experimental research on 325 cases of aphasia and paralysis and dysphasia treated with acupuncture, the research on “quantity of acupuncture manipulation, the research of action mechanism on the blood theology and cerebral thrombosis, the experimental research on the influence of acupuncture for cerebral function of the model mice of rapid aged dementia, and the experimental research on the influence of acupuncture for behavior cellular withering and death of mice of rapid aged dementia. He won 15 awards of the scientific and technical progress on the ministerial and municipal levels, 3 awards of teaching result and 6 patents on the state level. He has published 30 thesis and 17 books. He was the president of the First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin University of TCM for 20 years and was keen on reform and bold in exploration. Because of his leadership, the hospital became one of the biggest TCM hospitals in China. He was elected as the only acupuncture academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering since 1999 that is the highest honor in acupuncture in China.
